Hello and welcome to Hope, Discovery and Me ...
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog. I hope that through sharing some of my story you to will realise that hope is real and change is always possible.
I am 19 year old girl and I am from Northern Ireland. When I was only 15 I attended my first mental health appointment during which I was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa and Anxiety. If I was to say that recovery has been easy so far then I really would be lying and the past few months have been the first time I would actually consider myself to even be in recovery. It has been a very tough battle and has been both physically and mentally draining. However, I am thankful to say that things are looking up and I am starting to do well. When I moved to adult services in June 2020 I was given a diagnosis of EUPD (Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder) for which I am receiving therapy for and this has enabled for me to start to stabilise and be 6 months free from inpatient care !!!
The Aim of this blog is to raise awareness and provide advice to those who need it, with the hope to show that things can get better and that hope is real and change is possible.
I plan on doing posts about various different aspects of recovery and provide advice for those who are going through the transition from CAMHS (Child And Adolescent Mental Health Services) to Adult Mental Health Services.
I really want to be able to use my lived experience to help others realise that things can get better and you should never feel like a lost cause as one thing there always is, is hope.
As a 15 year old girl being pushed into beginning recovery I never thought that I would make it out alive never mind be where I am today. Yes everyday is still a struggle but I can now say that I am thankful to be alive and am so grateful to have been given so many more chances at life.
Currently, I am studying health and social care at college and will be beginning my final year in September and I hope to go on to become a social worker through which I hope I can help raise awareness and promote the health and well-being of everyone but particularly young people.
I also attend courses at my local recovery college and help them out as much as I can. One key hope for me is to be able to help young people through their transition from CAMHS to AMHS as for me this was an extremely difficult time and something that I am still adapting to.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog, I hope that my posts will help you along your journey. In the mean time remember that ...
Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you,
doesn't mean you can, should or need to do it alone !!!!
Lots of Love
Hope, discovery and me xx
